it took me about a week of oil forums to decide if I was going to buy motul, liquimolly, that new penzzoil stuff, or pentosin. I came to a conclusion.
so I decided on pentosin for as few reasons.
What oil does oppo use?

Whatever the guys at Jiffy Lube put in.

Conventional I use Castrol GTX or Kendall if I can find it. Shell Rotella for diesels. Castrol Syntec if synthetic is required. Usually throw a splash of ATF in the mix if it is higher mileage to keep the lifters clean

Same here. Been using Mobil 1 (full synthetic) for about 15 years. In both of my Tiburons and in my '96 Cherokee.

only mobil 1 from walmart for my european performance machine. For my jeep, anything slightly more lubricating than mud.

i wanted to Go there once, they wanted to charge me double for 4 extra quarts of oil... They also did not know what certifications their synthetic had
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:41 |

Used that on '87 300D, Pennzoil on CRX Si. '97 SHO went on Mobil 1.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:41 |

i tried syntec last time, and my engine did not like it much

Mobil 1 full synthetic juices go in every vehicle at my house.
Wagon demands 5w20, so 5w20 is what she gets.

Traveller's from Tractor Supply. It comes in massive 5 gallon containers that you can use with a pump which is necessary when you have as many vehicles that take the same weight of oil as I do.
It's cheaper than buying a bunch of small containers and it has good additives and is API certified.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:43 |

huh, never had an engine not like it! the only one I have had issues with before is Valvolene
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:44 |

i was curious about that brand, how do you like it?
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:45 |

There is a quick lube place in town that says they exclusively use Kendall. IIRC it is a Firestone Car Care.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:46 |

i plan to use redline for my diff when I change it this winter. Trans fluid "lifetime" and its been in too long to drain and fill.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:48 |

my LS1 gets Mobil 1 and all the traditional small block Chevys in the fleet get Valvoline.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:48 |

Hopefully my engine likes ze German's fluid more. Otherwise it's back to Mobil 1.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:50 |

my car says 5-30, 0-40 , or 5-40. I plan to go through the change interval before winter hits though.

The HEMI requires 5w20 for the MDS system to work, and I'm okay with that.

Mobil 1 for both my cars. 10W-30 for the Benz and 5W-30 for the Malibu.

I use Castrol because of REASONS.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 14:01 |

i use maple syrup for my rear diff, and sex lube for my steering rack. (Close enough in consistency )
![]() 10/10/2014 at 14:02 |

i used castrol last fill, but my engine did not seem to enjoy itself.

I use Chevron Supreme 10w30 in the Subaru. I can get it cheaply by the case at Costco and from what I've read it's quite good stuff.
I'm not really too concerned since naturally aspirated Subarus have a reputation for being easy on oil. My owner's manual says I can use anything from 5w30 to 20w50 if I want, although 5w30 and 10w30 are recommended if I'm not towing, and the recommended oil change interval is 7500 miles.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 14:03 |

Shell Rotella T6 for my WRX. Cheaper than conventional and does a boxer good.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 14:05 |

I am a Castrol man (it is a British thing), but I will buy whatever I can get a good deal on. As long as the oil is up to standard, I am not picky. I usually put diesel formulation in my performance cars due to the extra detergents in them.

I've been using Amsoil for the last 20 years, at first in my truck, and now in my Z. I use the high zinc formula for the Z (solid lifters), and the modern 5W-30 for the truck (added turbo, EFI conversion). The Jetta is Castrol full synthetic (again, turbo motor), because that's what the dealer uses (wife's car, super low mileage and warranty, I don't wrench on it). Friends with similar cars have been using Redline, Motul, Royal Purple, Shell Rotella (again with the Zinc issue for older heads) and some other synthetics with good results. Hadn't seen Pento. I'll have to look it up.

It's great. I've had 3 oil analyses done by Blackstone, engine seems to be really happy with it. I think it's sold in Europe as Elf. It's the same thing I'm told.

Mobil 1 for all of 'em. This rebate makes it cheap. Bought 20 quarts, sent one rebate check to my mom's house.

Amsoil in the BMW (motorcycle), or sometimes Genuine BMW Motorrad Oil (The BMW oil is cheaper, but it shifts better on the Amsoil).
So far the FieSTa has only had Ford Motorcraft Semi-synthetic from the dealer (got three free oil changes).
everything else in my life has either gotten Mobile 1 or Rotella (quality diesel oil works great in motorcycles, makes the gear-change smoother than all but the best synthetics)

Blackstone you say?

Trying Mobil 1 High Mileage in my Ranger for the moment. I ran Rotella T in my Rambler for a while, really worked well to clean out 40-some year old deposits.

They sell it in lighter weights, but this is full-race shit!

yeah I don't think that my oil pump is strong enough for that.

Mobil1 because that's what we have in my shop and I get it for basically nothing.
Note: Pennzoil and Jiffy Lube bad. Once put about a teaspoon of Pennzoil synthetic on a piece of sheet metal and heated it with a small propane torch, within seconds it boiled and left a nice thick wax and carbon residue. Did the same thing with some cheapo parts store special and nothing happened. Many engines I've opened up that had Jiffy Lube/Pennzoil services for most of their lives always have more carbon and crud buildup inside.

Mobile 1 and I get it from WallyWorld. My car takes 8.5 quarts which gets expensive really quick.

No. Nor have I ever heard of it. But I'm not convinced. I'll stick with what I know. I've seen enough harm come from only using Pennzoil that I will probably never trust them.

Mobil 1 Syn for the DD
Valvoline Syn Race 20w-50 (high zinc) for the 914. Going to try Brad Penn or maybe Porsches new oil next.

The oil has never been changed in my car while I have owned it (my first car, and Ive had it for under 2 months) but what is in it is valvoline, and my mom gets the crap from jiffy lube.

the weird thing is that Hyundai "recommends" Pennzoil (no clue why)
![]() 10/11/2014 at 01:54 |

Who knows. Probably some stupid corporate partnership. I'm not about to trust them either though. Especially when all I own is Mercedes.
![]() 10/11/2014 at 02:05 |

i wouldn't trust it either. I mean Audi has a partnership with castrol in the US but they come.factory filled with motul or pentosin

Mobil Super Synthetic 5w-30. Used to put Mobil 1 in it but its just a bit too expensive. The Super is a bit cheaper and is full synthetic.
![]() 10/14/2014 at 14:12 |

The truck gets Mobil 1 5W-30 because it's an old Ford.
The Z4 gets whatever LL-01 oil either I have around or the dealer has around (if I take it there because service light), so either Mobil 1 or Castrol. I change more frequently because the computer based algorithm is garbage (15K between oil changes? Umm..no)
The Mini is on its service plan, and the computer algorithm is more reasonable (8K change interval on synthetic), so whatever the dealer puts in.
The Audi will likely end up getting Mobil 1 5W-40 or whatever VW 502.00 oil seems to work reasonably well.
